The experience as an artist teaching in early childhood education is a complex, and oftentimes confusing journey. I tend towards poetry and intuitive creation, having lived in the art world since I left for art school--seeking magic and joy from the early childhood education system--not realizing the care of these young children isn't as intuitive or magical or poetic as one believes it will be. Certainly, there's something to be said for the bond between an infant and their attachments, but my expectations are continuously challenged. An entire world sits before me, of feeding schedules, diapers, developmental milestones, wake windows, baby products, family dynamics, and illnesses I've never heard of.
Fear and beauty.
A child is always beautiful, and the adult is always a little bit afraid.
I want to introduce this blog as a public, online journal documenting a young artist's journey to become an informed and progressive professional while protecting her creative soul from the highly capitalized and underpaid field of early childhood education.
